Tierce Freshman Of The Year, Martin First Team All-Conference

AMERICUS, Ga.- Georgia Southwestern softball players Hayley Tierce and Joshlyn Martin both received Peach Belt Conference awards on Thursday night at a banquet in Milledgeville, Ga., site of the PBC softball tournament.

Tierce was named Freshman Of The Year becoming the first GSW softball player to win any major PBC award. Tierce was also named Second Team All-Conference. The Warner Robins, Ga. native hit .392 with 58 hits, 35 runs, 12 doubles, 16 home runs and 51 RBIs. 

Tierce is the first Hurricane to ever lead the PBC in home runs, was second in RBIs, slugging percentage and total bases and seventh in batting average.  She started in 53 of GSW's 56 games in her first year of collegiate softball. She also pitched twice with a 2-0 record and 0.78 ERA with 12 strikeouts in nine innings of work. In the field Tierce had 181 total chances with 61 putouts, 112 assists and eight errors to record a .956 fielding percentage.

Tierce is the sixth Lady 'Cane to be named Second Team All- Conference. Gabby Buck was named Second Team in 2009 and 2010, Mason Moreland in 2012, Hayley Knight in 2013, Rachel McElroy in 2013 and 2015 and Jordan Miller in 2014.

Tierce is ranked seventh in NCAA DII for home runs and is 19th in RBIs.

Martin was named to the Peach Belt Conference First Team All-Conference team. The Fountain Inn, S.C. native played in 53 games in her first year of collegiate softball. Martin recorded a .314 batting average with 50 hits, 18 runs, 11 doubles, two home runs and 30 RBIs. In the field Martin had 214 total chances with 205 putouts, five assists and only four errors to record a .921 fielding percentage.

Martin is the second GSW player to make First Team All-Conference, Nichole Griffin was the first in 2011.
