AMERICUS, Ga.- Georgia Southwestern freshman Hayley Tierce has been named to the 2016 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Southeast All-Region First Team.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's eight regions with first and second team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2016 NFCA Division II All-American squads.
Tierce capped off a very successful freshman campaign by being named Freshman of the Year at the Peach Belt Conference banquet where she also made Second Team All-Conference.
In her first year of collegiate softball Tierce hit .392 with 58 hits, 35 runs, 12 doubles, 16 home runs and 51 RBIs. Tierce lead the PBC in home runs, was second in RBIs, slugging percentage and total bases and seventh in batting average. She started in 53 of GSW's 56 games . She also pitched twice with a 2-0 record and 0.78 ERA with 12 strikeouts in nine innings of work. In the field Tierce had 181 total chances with 61 putouts, 112 assists and eight errors to record a .956 fielding percentage.
Tierce broke the GSW NCAA era season home run record and is four homers shy of the career record with thee years remaining. She also holds the season RBI record with 51, the career record is 92.
This year's squads are comprised of 207 student-athletes from 116 programs. The Southeast Region teams are listed below:
