Young Harris Sweeps Lady 'Canes

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.- Joshlyn Martin recorded a combined four RBIs in Georgia Southwestern softball's doubleheader loss to Young Harris on Saturday evening at E.D Rivers Field.

GSW finished their season 22-32 overall and 7-17 in the Peach Belt Conference and Young Harris moved to 40-10, 17-7 PBC.

GAME 1: GSW 4, YOUNG HARRIS 8

Martin singled through the right side to plate Brittany Davis and take an early one-run lead.

Young Harris scored one run in the first and one in the second to take a one-run lead and Martin took the one-run lead back with a two-run double to left center.

Hayley Tierce scored on a fielding error in the fifth to take a two-run lead but a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh from Young Harris tied the game and sent it into extra innings.

Young Harris hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth to take the four-run win.

B. Davis was 3-for-5 at the plate, Martin was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Shannon Gibson was 2-for-4.

Gibson pitched 7.1 innings, faced 36 batters, struck out two, walked four and gave up 10 hits and eight runs.

GAME 2: GSW 2, YOUNG HARRIS 6

Young Harris scored one in the bottom of the first and another in the bottom of the second to take an early lead. Tierce hit her 12th home run of the season in the fourth to put GSW on the board.

Young Harris scored three in the fourth off two singles and a fielding error to lead by four. Martin doubled to left center to score B. Davis and give GSW their second run. Young Harris pushed across one more run in the sixth and held off GSW in the seventh to take another four-run win and complete the sweep.

Tierce and Sabrina Sieber both went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Brittany Childs pitched four innings, faced 24 batters, struck out one, walked two and allowed eight hits and five runs.

Kaley Sikes pitched two innings, faced 11 batters, walked four and allowed one run.
