Hurricanes Dominate in Day 1 of the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern softball extends its winning streak to nine games as they defeated Charleston University (WV) in the first game of the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic Friday afternoon.  

Game 1 W, 8-1  

Katelyn Wood had a great performance behind the plate going 3-for-4 with a double a home run and adding 4 RBIS. Kimmy Singer had a solid performance going 3-for-4. Zoe Willis also had a multi-hit game as she went 2-for-3  with a walk and two RBIS including a home run in the top of the first inning.                                                                       

Hannah Holloway turned in a great pitching performance as she pitched a complete game allowing one run on three hits and striking out seven batters.

The teams were tied at one at the end of the first inning until the Hurricanes had an offensive explosion in the top of the second inning scoring five runs that gave the Canes the lead and they never looked back.

Game 2  W, 14-0  Georgia Southwestern softball extends its winning streak to double-digit games as they defeated Shaw University in the second game of the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic Friday evening. 

The Hurricanes got off to a fast start scoring five runs in the first inning Zoe Willis got the scoring started with a single to center field and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Katelyn Wood walked then Isabel Marcotte scored the first run of the game on an rbi single GSW took the lead and never lost it. GSW scored five more runs in the second inning on six hits and a Shaw error. 

Savana Bradford earns her fourth win with a dominant pitching performance throwing a perfect game and sticking out 10 batters.

Overall GSW scored 14 runs on 14 hits and finished the day scoring 22 runs in two games and allowing only one run. 

The Hurricanes will stay in Columbus to face off against California University (PA) and Gannon university on the second day of the NFCA Divison II Leadoff Classic games start at 10:00 am and 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
