Lady ‘Canes comeback bid falls short

Despite shooting 27 percent from the floor in the first half, Georgia Southwestern was able to keep Georgia College & State University within their sights on Wednesday evening at the Storm Dome only to eventually fall 62-58.

GSW connected on one of their first twelve shots, yet only trailed by a point five minutes into the game.  GCSU eventually built a 10 point lead at the eight minute mark (20-10), but the Lady Hurricanes chipped away and went into the break down by three (29-26).

Although Southwestern connected on only 9-of-33 in the first stanza, their defense held the Lady Bobcats to 13-of-43 from floor.

GCSU (10-5, 5-3 PBC) built the lead back to nine with 11:05 left in the game.  However, Southwestern made another charge and trimmed the lead to two on three different occasions, the last being after a Brandi Burris three pointer with 12 seconds remaining.  After a GSW foul, Tiauana Brantley hit two free throws to seal the win.

Burris led the Lady Hurricanes with 16 points.  Nadirah Gardner added 13 for Southwestern (5-11, 0-9 PBC). Arile Hadley pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Brantley finished with 23 points for GCSU.

The Lady ‘Canes look to snap a 10-game losing skid on Saturday at Augusta State. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
