GSW WOMEN 48, GEORGIA COLLEGE 66

The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team dropped their first conference game of the season in a 66-48 loss at Georgia College & State University on Wednesday evening.
 
The Lady Hurricanes held a 7-2 lead at the 14:49 mark of the first half before going the next 11 minutes without a field goal - a stretch where Southwestern missed 13 consecutive shots. GSW shot 14.8 percent from the floor (4-of-27) over the opening 20 minutes and trailed at the intermission, 27-17.

The Lady 'Canes could get no closer than six points (47-41) the rest of the way.  

Georgia College (9-4, 2-1) shot 35.1 percent from the floor (20-of-57) for the game while GSW was held to 23.7 percent (14-of-59).
 
The Bobcats outrebounded GSW (53-42), doubled-up the Lady 'Canes on assists (12-6) and swatted away a staggering 12 shots.

Brandi Burris led Southwestern with 15 points and nine rebounds. Nadirah Gardner added nine points. Brittany Reynolds pulled down nine boards.
 
Antoinette Reames finished with a double-double after scoring 16 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. Shandrea Moore matched Reames with 16 points.
 
GSW (7-6, 2-1) travels to Francis Marion on Saturday for a 1:30 game.

GSW MEN 42, GEORGIA COLLEGE 80

The Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team's point total was kept in the 40s, for the second time in three games, on Wednesday evening in a 80-42 defeat at Georgia College & State University.  

GCSU opened a 15-point lead (23-8) 10 minutes into the game and followed that run with a similar 22-8 spurt to take a 45-16 lead into the break. The Bobcats shot 64.3 percent (18-of-28) from the floor over the opening 20 minutes, including 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from beyond the arc. The Hurricanes were held to 30 percent shooting (6-of-20) and 28.6 percent (2-of-7) from three-point range.   

Georgia College continued to pull away from Southwestern in the second period, opening the lead up to 43 points (72-29) with 6:40 remaining.

GSW finished the game shooting 38.5 percent from the floor (15-of-39), while GCSU ended at 58.5 percent (31-of-53) after taking 14 more shots than the Hurricanes.

Georgia College connected on as many three-point baskets (9-of-15) as free throws (9-of-12).

The Bobcats controlled the boards (31-17), dished out more assists (17-2) and committed fewer turnovers (16-7) to remain undefeated in the PBC (3-0) and improve their record to 10-2 overall.

Evan Mobley came off the bench to lead the Hurricane with 15 points.

GCSU's Jake Rios led all scorers with 17 points. Andre Mikell added 14 points and Josh Hurst chipped in 10.

GSW (4-9, 0-3 PBC) travels to Francis Marion on Saturday for a 3:30 game.
