GSW went 0-for-2 on the hardwood Saturday afternoon at the Storm Dome as the women fell to the No. 11-ranked Lady Bearcats, 84-70, and the men dropped a heartbreaker in overtime to LU, 60-58.

The Hurricanes complete a four-game homestand Wednesday with a visit from Clayton State. The women tip at 5:30 p.m. The men's game follows at 7:30 p.m.

LADY CANES 70, #11 LANDER 84

The No. 11-ranked Lander women's basketball team remained unbeaten in the Peach Belt Conference Saturday afternoon and stretched its win streak to 11 games as the Lady Bearcats defeated Georgia Southwestern, 84-70, in the Storm Dome.
 
Lander improves to 18-1 overall and 11-0 in the PBC, while GSW drops to 9-10, 4-5.
 
The Lady Bearcats used a 14-5 run in the first half to go from a 14-13 lead to a 28-18 advantage with 8:33 left in the first half. Lander led 45-28 at the intermission.
 
GSW got as close as 14 points with 13:32 left in the game on Terra Branch's layup, but the Bearcats immediately went up 58-39 with 11:45 left on a McKever layup and Brittni Johnson three pointer.
 
The Lady 'Canes ended the game with a 9-1 run to cut the final margin to 14 points in the last 2:36.
 
GSW made 26-of-68 floor shots for 38.2 percent, including 7-of-14 three pointers for 50 percent. The Lady Hurricanes also made 11-of-15 foul shots for 73.3 percent.
 
Lander connected on 35-of-74 field goals for 47.3 percent, including 7-of-17 three pointers for 41.2 percent. The Lady Bearcats also made 7-of-15 free throws. Lander out-rebounded the Lady Hurricanes, 50-40.
 
Branch led GSW with 16 points, while Jessica Bivins and Whitley Wiltz added 15 each and Brittany Reynolds netted 10. Kanita Holloway led GSW with eight rebounds, while Reynolds had seven and Wiltz six.
 
Shannon McKever posted her seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead Lander. Mukia Myrick also netted 16 points. Ciara Lyons added 13 points and Keondra Barnes 12.

GSW MEN 58, LANDER 60 (OT)

The Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team suffered its fourth consecutive loss, a 60-58 overtime decision to Lander University, Saturday afternoon at the Storm Dome.

The Bearcats dominated the first minutes of the game, jumping out to an 11-4 lead in the first seven minutes of the contest. GSW gradually cut into Lander's lead and the Bearcats led 22-20 at halftime.

The Hurricanes tied the game at 22-22 to start the second half on two Evan Mobley free throws, then the Hurricanes went up 35-30 on a pair of Sedale McGee-Jones free throws at 11:19. Lander used a jumper by Da'Shon Barrino and a Tovi Bailey three-point play to tie the game at 35-35 with 9:54 remaining and neither team led by more than four points until the end of regulation.

A free throw by Dannie Hunt with 1:40 left in the second half gave GSW a 51-48 advantage. The Hurricanes were unable to score the remainder of regulation as they committed two consecutive turnovers and missed their final two shots before the buzzer, including a tip-in attempt off an out-of-bounds pass that rimmed out with under one second on the clock.

Another pair of GSW turnovers to start overtime helped the Bearcats go up 55-51 a minute and 30 seconds into the extra session. After GSW cut the lead to 55-53 on Mobley's layup, Lander followed with a Dane Sparrow jumper and a pair of Darius Johnson free throws to take a 59-53 advantage with 21 seconds left. Mobley's layup with 12 seconds left cut Lander's lead to 59-55, then GSW's Ric Roderick netted a three-pointer following Barrino's missed free throw to cut the margin to 59-58 with three seconds left. Lander closed out the scoring with Deangelo Spruill's free throw with two seconds remaining. Mobley missed a desperation 55-foot heave as the horn sounded.

The Hurricanes were paced by Mobley's 16 points, while Chris Rawls added 13 points and six rebounds. Will Kenimer led the Hurricanes in rebounds with seven.

Johnson led the Bearcats with 16 points. Bailey added 12 points, Bailey 11, and Sparrow 10.
Lander (8-11, 3-8 PBC) connected on 25-of-52 field goals for 48.1 percent, including 2-of-8 three pointers for 25 percent. The Bearcats also made 8-of-14 free throws for 57.1 percent.

GSW made 19-of-41 floor shots for 46.3 percent, including 6-of-15 threes for 40 percent. GSW also made 14-of-17 foul shots for 82.4 perents.

Both teams recorded 27 rebounds.
