Lady ‘Canes roll past Flagler, 74-45

The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team delivered a 74-45 homecoming victory over Flagler College at the Storm Dome on Saturday evening. The 29-point margin of victory is the Lady Hurricanes largest in conference play since joining the NCAA four years ago.

GSW jumped out to an 11-4 advantage, capped off by a Whitley Wiltz layup at the 16:01 mark. Flagler eventually narrowed the Southwestern advantage to one point (19-18) after two free throws from Jalisa Foster with 8 minutes and 31 seconds left in the first half. That's as close as the Saints would get the rest of the way.

The Lady Hurricanes closed out the opening stanza on a 21-8 run to lead 40-26 at the halftime break.

After the two teams played even over the opening five minutes of the second half, GSW went on 21-7 run to open a 28-point advantage (68-40) with 3:57 to play.

GSW finished the game shooting 36.8 percent from the floor (25 of 68), including 35.7 percent (5 of 14) from beyond the arc, while holding Flagler to 23.6 percent (13 of 55 FGs) off 13 fewer shots.

The Lady Hurricanes outrebounded the Saints (52-43) and dished 13 more assists (19-6). 

Wiltz led the Lady ‘Canes with game-highs in points (20) and rebounds (10) for her second double-double of the season. Jessica Bivins added 17 points on 7 of 14 shooting. Terra Branch chipped in 11 points while going a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line. Kanita Holloway pulled down nine rebounds and Brittany Reynolds added eight boards. 

Foster scored 10 points to lead Flagler (7-16, 2-12 PBC). 
 
GSW (10-13, 5-8) plays its final two home games of 2009-10 this week, starting with a matchup aginst Georgia College on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
