AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team improved its record to 4-1 after a 70-57 win over West Florida on Wednesday evening in the Storm Dome. GSW had five players score in double digits, led by a game-high 14 points from Jessica Bivins.

UWF jumped to the early lead, scoring the first six points of the game. A Nadirah Gardner layup at the 17:30 mark put the Lady Hurricanes on the scoreboard, but the Argonauts held the advantage until Terra Branch's jumper with 11:15 left in the half gave GSW its first lead of the game, 16-15.

The Hurricanes opened the margin to six points on two different occasions in the opening stanza, but took a 30-28 lead into the locker room at the halftime break. 

After UWF tied the game at 30-30, GSW proceeded to go on a 10-2 run and led 40-32 with 15:48 remaining in the game.

West Florida chipped the Lady Hurricanes lead down to three points (40-37) before GSW answered with an 18-8 run to open a 13-point advantage, 58-45. The Argonauts could get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

GSW finished the game shooting 47.3 percent from the floor after a 50 percent effort in the second half. UWF was held to 38.5 percent.

West Florida (3-3) won the battle of the boards, 35-28. The Lady Hurricanes blocked nine shots in the contest - six coming from Cierra Duhart - compared to one by the Argonauts.

Branch finished with 13 points for GSW. Tania Walters scored 12 points and Kanita Holloway added 10. Duhart posted 10 points and nine rebounds, to go with her six blocks, in 21 minutes of action.

Kirstin McIntyre led West Florida with 14 points. Sher'Ryan Scott tossed in 12.

GSW travels to Valdosta State on Saturday afternoon to face the Lady Blazers at 4 p.m.
