GSW scoring drought opens door for Valdosta State

VALDOSTA - The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team dropped a 57-51 decision to Valdosta State on Saturday afternoon at the HPE Complex.
 
The Lady Hurricanes led by a point at the break, 30-29, before going nearly nine minutes in the second half without a basket. GSW missed eight consecutive shots during the drought and VSU eventually opened a 10-point advantage late in the game.

The Lady Hurricanes missed all six of their three-point attempts over the final 20 minutes and finished the period shooting 25 percent from the field.

Tania Walters paced GSW with 13 points and eight rebounds. Kanita Holloway added 10 points and seven boards.
 
Brittany Ferguson posted a double-double for VSU with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Shakeda Richie chipped in 14 points.

The two schools were near even in most statistical categories, but the Lady Blazers held a 22-12 advantage in bench points scored.
 
GSW (4-2) faces West Alabama tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Valdosta.
