GSW women end 2-game slide

AUGUSTA - Led by a game-high 15 points from Jessica Bivins and Cierra Duhart's fifth double-double of the season, the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team ended a two-game skid and defeated Augusta State, 74-53, in Christenberry Fieldhouse on Thursday evening.

GSW controlled the opening eight minutes of the game and jumped to an early 14-2 lead. 

The Lady 'Canes advantage was 32-24 at the halftime break.

ASU closed the gap to four points on two occasions early in the second period, with the last coming at 36-32 with 16:35 remaining.

Duhart finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Hurricanes after connecting on 6 of 7 shots. She added four blocks and four assists. Shakira White scored 12 points and grabbed seven boards.

Morgan Goss and Jemimah Ashby came off the bench to lead ASU with 11 points apiece.

The Lady Hurricanes shot a consistent 45.5 percent from the floor in each half and finished the game shooting an identical 45.5 percent from beyond the arc. ASU finished the game with a 35.3 field goal percentage.

GSW outscored the Jaguars 40-18 in the paint.

Southwestern takes on the top-ranked team in D-II Lander in Greenwood, S.C. on Saturday.
