SAVANNAH - Georgia Southwestern State University held the Armstrong Atlantic State University women's basketball team to just five field goals in the second half, pulling away for a 71-47 Peach Belt Conference victory on Thursday evening at Alumni Arena.

With the win, the Lady Hurricanes (11-10, 5-7 PBC) moved into a tie for the fourth spot in the PBC West Division with North Georgia, while the Lady Pirates (8-14, 4-10 PBC) fell a full game behind UNC Pembroke for the fourth spot in the PBC East Division. The top four teams in each division make the 2011 PBC Championships.

GSW built a 12-point first-half lead, but Armstrong went on a small run over the last minute and a half of the first half to cut the lead to seven, 34-27, at halftime.

The Lady Hurricanes came out in the second half on a 14-4 run over the first five minutes, then held Armstrong to a five and a half-minute scoreless stretch in coming away with the 24-point victory.

Armstrong made just five of 29 shots from the floor in the second half (17.2 percent) and finished the game shooting just 29.1 percent from the floor, while the Lady Hurricanes took advantage at the free throw line, hitting 20 of 22 shots from the stripe (90.9 percent).

GSW was led by Terra Branch's game-high 19 points and 13 points from Kanita Holloway off the bench. Branch connected on all six of her free throw attempts and Holloway made 9 of 10 from the line. 

Arpine Amirkhanyan led Armstrong with 15 points.

Southwestern travels to Flagler on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. game with the Saints.
