FORT VALLEY, Ga. - A last minute Georgia Southwestern rally wasn't enough for the Blue and Gold as the Lady Hurricanes couldn't overcome a balanced Fort Valley State offensive attack Saturday afternoon, eventually falling to the Wildcats, 60-54.

Junior guard Shaniece Sheffield tallied a career high 14 points on the afternoon for Georgia Southwestern (0-3) and senior forward Briana Walker chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds but a balanced FVSU scoring attack proved to be too much for the cold shooting Hurricanes to overcome.

Fort Valley was led by three double figure scorers on the afternoon. Americus native Jayme Gilbert tallied 12 points for the Wildcats (1-1). In addition, forward Dominique Collier tallied 12 points and eight rebounds while 5'9 forward Carmenonique Dawson accounted for 12 points and five boards.

With five minutes to play in the second half, the Hurricanes rallied to cut a 14 point deficit to five points but late FVSU free throws iced the game for the Wildcats. 

Overall, it was a cold shooting night for the Lady 'Canes as they were 17-57 from the field and 2-11 from three. Freshman sensation Jasmine McSwain was limited offensively by the Wildcats but finished with eight points and four rebounds on 1-8 shooting.

GSW returns to the court Sunday afternoon to take on Albany State at 2 p.m. in the second and final game of the SIAC/PBC Challenge.
