McSwain Points the Way

AMERICUS - GSW freshman standout Jasmine McSwain's double double led a balanced Hurricane attack as the Blue and Gold used a big second half to coast to a 65-46 victory over Point University on a Monday afternoon New Year's Eve matinee.

After a relatively quiet first half, McSwain shook off the holiday break rust to pour in 13 second half points to finish with a near triple-double tallying 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals on the afternoon.

Along with McSwain, three other Lady 'Canes finished in double figures on the afternoon. Guard Danisha Green had a good overall effort finishing with 13 points, seven steals and five rebounds. 

Sophomore forward Kabrina Merriweather chipped in a career high 12 points to go along with five boards.

Stormey Smith was the fouth Hurricane to finish in double figures as she finished with 12 points, ten of those came in the first half.

Southwestern used a strong defensive effort as the Lady 'Canes used 19 team steals to force 27 Skyhawk turnovers.

Point's Raven Bell was the only Skyhawk double digit scorer as she finished with 12 points.

Georgia Southwestern improves to 2-7 (0-2, PBC) on the season as Point falls to 2-11.

The Lady Hurricanes will be back in action Thursday as they take on third ranked USC Aiken in the Storm Dome at 5:30 p.m.
