GSW Women's Basketball Adds Five to 2013 Class

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern head coach Kelly Britsky has announced the signing of five student-athletes to complete GSW's 2013 recruiting class. The group of five joins Neena Carter, who signed in the fall period. The six signees will begin competing for the Lady Hurricanes for the 2013-14 season.

Here's a closer look at the six 2013 Lady 'Cane signees:

 

Neena Carter, 5-foot-10 guard, (Marieta, Ga./Sprayberry High School)

Statistics/Records: For the 2012-13 season, Carter finished 10th in the state of Georgia and first in Cobb County in scoring, averaging 21.4 points per game. She finished in the top 10 in the state in both steals (4.2) and blocks (1.8) per game. An all-round player, Carter finished in the top 15 in rebounds with 7.7 boards per contest.

Awards/Honors: After a strong senior campaign, Carter was named to the Atlanta Jounal-Constitution's all-state second team in addition to earning all-region and all-metro first team honors. She was named Sprayberry's 2012-13 Player of the Year.

Personal Data: Born May 8, 1995...parents are James and Joy Carter...plans to major inpharmaceutical sciences.

 

Tiara Thompson, 5-foot-10 forward, (Pensacola, Fla./Santa Fe Junior College)

Statistics/Records: For the 2012-13 season, Thompson averaged 8.1 points and 3.5 rebounds at Santa Fe Junior College.

Awards/Honors: Thompson amassed 1,000 career points during her high school career at Booker T. Washington where she was named first-team all-area. During her time at Santa Fe, Thompson was named to the second-team all-conference her freshman year in addition to being named to the all-academic team and a first-team conference selection her sophomore season.

Personal Data: Born Mar. 31, 1993...parents are Kenneth and Adrian Thompson...plans to major in business. Thompson will have two years of eligibility remaining at GSW.

 

Khabriyah Brown, 5-foot-9 forward, (Ochlocknee, Ga./Thomasville High School)

Statistics/Records: For the 2012-13 season, Brown averaged 14 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game for Thomasville High School.

Awards/Honors: For the 2012-13 season, Brown was named as the Thomasville Times-Enterprise Player of the Year. She was named to the first-team all-region and all-area teams. Brown earned MVP honors at the Southwest Georgia All-Star Game Classic.

Personal Data: Born on Oct. 15, 1994...parents are Anthony and Ucher Dent...plans to major in Biology Pre-Med.

 

Sierra Barrino-Kennedy, 6-foot forward, (Kennesaw, Ga./North Cobb High School)

Awards/Honors: Barrino-Kennedy earned the team's most improved, top rebounder, and captain's awards this for 2012-13 season.

Personal Data: Born on October 10, 1994...mother is Monica Kennedy...plans to major in psychology

 

 

 

Alajandra Anderson, 5-foot-6 guard, (Riverdale, Ga./North Clayton High School)

Statistics/Records: In 2012-13, Anderson averaged 13.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.0 steals per game as a senior at North Clayton High School.

Awards/Honors: As a senior, Anderson was named the team captain and earned second-team all-region honors. Over her high school career, Anderson received the 2010-11 & 2011-12 coaches' award and was named the 2009-10 sportsmanship award winner.

 Personal Data: Born on May 5, 1995...parents are Eric & Ruthie Anderson...plans to major in computer science.

 

Kiana Griffin, 5-foot-8 guard, (Kennesaw, Ga./Sprayberry High School)

Statistics/Records: Averaged 8.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game during her senior season at Sprayberry High School.

 Awards/Honors: Was a four-year varsity player during her time at Wheeler High School (3 years) and Sprayberry High School (1 year). Griffin recieved the 2011 academic and athletic achievement award.

Personal Data: Born on Mar. 8, 1995...parents are Chaundra Santos and Damon Khan...major is undecided.
