Women's Basketball Releases 2013-14 Schedule

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University head women's basketball coach Kelly Britsky has released the program's 2013-14 schedule which features 14 games at home and 12 on the road.

The Lady Hurricanes first contest will be an exhibition game at the NCAA Division I member University of Alabama at Birmingham on Oct. 28.

Southwestern opens the regular season with five of its first seven games inside the friendly confines of the GSW Storm Dome starting with the home opener on Nov. 12 against Truett-McConnell College. An inaugural meeting with Northwood University (Fla.) follows on the 16th. Then it's on the road for GSW as the Lady Hurricanes travel to Valdosta State (Nov. 23) and Paine University (Nov. 26).

GSW hosts the Third Annual Peach Belt Conference-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Challenge on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. The Lady 'Canes entertain Albany State on the 30th and Fort Valley State on the 1st.

PBC play begins on Dec. 7 with a visit by Georgia College.

From there the Lady 'Canes embark on their longest road trip of the season, a three-game stint that involves trips to Clayton State (Dec. 14), Converse College (Dec. 16) and Young Harris College (Jan. 4).

Peach Belt play ensues the rest of the season. GSW's first home contest of 2014 comes on Jan. 11 against UNC Pembroke. The following afternoon Southwestern entertains Francis Marion.

After a quick stop at Montevallo on the 15th, the Lady Hurricanes look to enjoy some home cooking for their longest stretch of the season, a four-game homestand that opens on the 18th against Flagler College. Armstrong (Jan. 20), North Georgia (Jan. 23) and Columbus State (Jan. 25) follow before GSW travels to Lander University on the 29th.

February kicks off with a Homecoming contest against Young Harris on the 1st.

In-state trips to Columbus State (Feb. 6) and Georgia College (Feb. 8) come before a rematch with Montevallo in the Storm Dome on the 12th.

GSW travels to Georgia Regents (formerly Augusta State) on Feb. 15 and USC Aiken on the 19th to wrap up out-of-division PBC play.

Senior Day and the home finale take place on Feb. 22 against 2013 NCAA National Tournament quarterfinalist Clayton State.

The regular season comes to a close in Dahlonega when Southwestern plays at North Georgia on March 1.

The Peach Belt Conference Tournament begins on Thursday, March 6 with the top four teams in each division qualifying for the postseason event. Columbus State will host this year's tourney with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA National Tournament.

The Lady Hurricanes return three of their top four scorers from last year's squad, including PBC Player of the Week selection (Nov. 11) sophomore Jasmine McSwain (12.0 ppg, 5.2 rpg) and junior Danisha Green (9.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg).
