Double Win For Women's Basketball At The Peach Belt/SIAC Challenge

ALBANY, Ga- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team traveled to Albany State over the weekend for the Peach Belt/SIAC Challenge where they picked up two more wins to make their record 4-0.

Saturday's game against Albany State was close in the first half. GSW took an early one point lead with a free throw by Ja'Quasha Sesler due to a technical foul but the Rams were able to come back with a jump shot to take the lead by one. Shanedra Lockett made a layup and a free throw to tie it up 4-4 at the 17:40 mark but Albany was able to take back the lead with 2 free throws, a layup and a jump shot. Sesler made a 3-pointer and a jump shot to help the Lady 'Canes come back to take and keep the lead for the rest of the first half. Kenyona Armstrong made two free throws at the end of the first to give GSW a 15 point lead going into the second.

GSW kept the lead the entire second half and won by seventeen points with a score of 72-55. Lockett lead the Lady 'Canes with 20 points and 5 steals. Emili Russ had 15 points with 8 rebounds. GSW had 52 rebounds, 28 points off turnovers and 24 points in the paint.

The Lady 'Canes kept up the momentum from Saturdays game into Sundays game against the Fort Valley Lady Wildcats. Tiara Thompson made two layups to put GSW in the lead early. Danisha Green made two free throws to build the lead and Thompson made another jump shot to continue GSW's edge. The Lady 'Canes held the lead the rest of the first half and went into the second with a seventeen point advantage.

Lockett put up a 3-pointer early in the second half to give GSW a twenty point margin. Green and Shatoria Hudson both made jump shots along with a layup by Green to make the score 43-17 at the 18:32 mark. The Lady Wildcats started to close the gap and only trailed by 10 with 11:34 left. Green put in two free throws to widen the gap and Armstrong kept the gap with a jump shot. Hudson and Lockett both made layups to give GSW a seventeen point lead. Sesler had a 3-pointer and a free throw to give the Lady 'Canes a twenty point advantage. Yvonna Dunkley helped GSW seal the win with a good layup at the buzzer making the final score 81-61.

Thompson lead GSW with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Hudson scored 14 points and Green had 12 points and 8 assists. The Lady 'Canes had 29 points off turnovers and 38 points in the paint.

The 4-0 record for Lady 'Canes 2014-15 season is the second best NCAA start since their 2011-12 season where they were 6-0 in the beginning and finished 18-9 overall, 10-7 in the Peach Belt. During that season GSW made it to the post season PBC tournament quarterfinal.

GSW goes for their 5th win Wednesday December 3 at home at 5:30PM in the Storm Dome against Middle Georgia State College.
