Lady 'Canes Fall To Mountain Lions 78-59

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team suffered their fourth loss of the season to make their record 9-3 and 3-3 in the Peach Belt Conference against Young Harris (5-8, 2-4 PBC).

Senior Tiara Thompson made the first two baskets for GSW but Young Harris was able to put in one free throw, three lay ups and a 3-ponter to take an early lead of 12-4 at the 14:01 mark. Shatoria Hudson made three jump shots and a lay up to give GSW another eight points and Yvonna Dunkley made a 3-pointer to close the gap for the Lady 'Canes and only trail by seven points at the 9:17 mark.

Shanedra Lockett made a free throw and both Thompson and Dunkley put in  3-pointers to close the gap for GSW and only put them behind by four points with five minutes left. The Mountain Lions put in three lay ups and three jump shots in the last minutes of play in the first half to end it with a thirteen point advantage going into the second.

Young Harris put in a lay up twelve seconds into the second half to give themselves a fifteen point lead 40-25. Hudson helped GSW with two lay ups and Thompson made a free throw followed by Ja'Quasha Sesler with a jump shot to close the gap a little but they just couldn't keep up with the  momentum of the Mountain Lion's. Young Harris put in a free throw and two lay ups to make th score 51-32 at the 14:10 mark.

Dunkley made two free throws and put in a lay up to try to give the Lady 'Canes a better chance but the Mountain Lions made two free throws, one lay up, two jump shots and two 3-pointers to give them a twenty seven point advantage at the 7:35 mark. The Lady 'Canes made a good attempt with two made free throws from Kwante'sha Love, a lay up from Khabriyah Brown and Hudson, a jump shot from Sesler, a 3-pointer from Thompson and two more lay ups from Dunkely and Thompson to trail by twenty three at with 2:51 left.

In the last forty-six seconds GSW was able to make a lay up from Kenyona Armstrong and two jump shots from Hudson but even with thier tough attempts they still lost 78-59.

Hudson lead the Lady 'Canes with 18 points and Thompson put in 13 points including 2 3-pointers. Dunkley helped GSW with 12 points and had 2 3-pointers as well.

Young Harris out rebounded GSW 41-28 and out shot the Lady 'Canes 52.2% to 42.1%.

The Lady 'Canes are back at home in the Storm Dome Wednesday January 14 at 5:30PM to face off against Flagler.
