Lady 'Canes Lose In Double Overtime To Clayton State, 90-87

MORROW, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team (10-8, 4-7 PBC) took Clayton State (13-7, 7-4 PBC) into a double overtime Wednesday night in the Athletics Center where the Lakers took the win 90-87.

The Lady 'Canes lead the first half shooting 57.6%. Tiara Thompson put in five lay ups and a free throw in the first to get the Lady Canes 11 of their 45 points. Ja'Quasha Sesler put in four baskets and a free throw to give GSW 9 points and Shatoria Hudson and Yvonna Dunkley had seven points each including a 3-pointer from both. Shanedra Lockett put in four points and had four rebounds. The Lady 'Canes took the lead and held an eight point advantage with eleven minutes left and held it for two minutes. With 7:55 left on the clock GSW had a ten point advantage and with 5:29 left lead the game 34-19. The Lady 'Canes kept up the momentum and ended the first 45-34.

In the second GSW shot a 23.8% and scored 34 points. Dunkley put in twelve points including three 3-pointers and Thompson put up seven points to help out the Lady 'Canes. Lockett scooped up five rebounds to give her nine combined. Both teams shot ten of fourteen free throws but Clayton State shot 44.4% and was able to tie up the game and take it into overtime.

The Lady 'Canes scored the first two points in the first overtime with two made free throws from Lockett but Clayton tied it up with a lay up. Lockett put in a lay up to take the lead back and Clayton had a free throw to give GSW a one point lead. Dunkley made a 3-pointer to take a four point advantage but Clayton put in a 3-pointer to close the gap by one and took the lead with a lay up. Lockett made a free throw to tie it up 77-77 with 1:28 left in the first overtime. Clayton put in a free throw and a lay up to take the lead but in the last few seconds lockett sent a 3-pointer in to tie it up and go into a second overtime.

GSW out rebounded Clayton 52-42 and had more turnovers, 36-23. The game consisted of five ties and the lead changed seven.

The Lady 'Canes are back on the road Saturday January 31 to face off against Columbus State at 1:30 p.m.
