Lockett's Double Double Not Enough To Beat Clayton State

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team (11-10, 5-9 PBC) lost to Clayton State (14-9, 8-6 PBC), 62-58, Saturday evening in the Storm Dome.

Tiara Thompson lead the Lady 'Canes with twenty three points and Shanedra Lockett had a double double with thirteen points and had sixteen rebounds. Thompson made GSW's first two lay ups and scored seventeen points in the first. Lockett had seven points and put in a 3-pointer early on to help GSW lead 7-4. Clayton was not far behind in making baskets. The Lakers came back seven times to take the lead in the first half, every time only being behind by a basket or two. Thompson secured the lead at the end of the first with two lay ups. The Lady 'Canes were up at halftime 33-29.

The second half proved to be more of a fight. Thompson put in two baskets to take a six point lead but with six made free throws in a row Clayton tied the game 39-39 with 16.:27 on the clock. Thompson put in another lay up and Shatoria Hudson put in a free throw to take the lead back. Danisha Green and Lockett both made lay ups and Hudson put in a jump shot to give GSW a seven point lead with 12:04 to go. Clayton was able to catch up and tie the game 51-51 with 9:06 left and then took and kept the lead winning the game 62-58.

Clayton State made 20-27 free throws and had more points off turnovers. GSW out rebounded Clayton 51-40 and had more turn overs, 17-12.

The Lady 'Canes are back at home in the Storm Dome on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to host North Georgia.
