Nighthawks Soar Over Lady 'Canes 77-65

AMERICUS, Ga.- Shanedra Lockett's season high of of 21 points could not help the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team Wednesday night in the Storm Dome against North Georgia. The Lady 'Canes lost game number 22 making their overall record 11-11 and 5-10 in the Peach Belt Conference and moving North Georgia to 20-4 overall and 12-3 in the PBC.

The first ten minutes of the game was a tug of war between both teams, each taking the lead almost every other basket. The Lady 'Canes held the lead or close to it until North Georgia put in two free throws followed by a 3-pointer, five more free throws and another 3-pointer to go from a tie to a twelve point lead.

The Lady 'Canes scored twenty three points in the first half to put them behind North Georgia by nineteen points with a score of 42-23 going into the second.

GSW picked up the pace in the second half and closed the gap by shooting 60% and scoring forty two points including Lockett with fifteen points and Tiara Thompson with nine. The Lady Canes picked up 14 rebounds and had six steals compared to North Georgia's two. The Nighthawks had eleven turn overs while GSW only had five.

Even with all the effort put into the second, the Nighthawks were able to edge the Lady 'Canes by twelve. North Georgia made 21 out of 25 free throws compared to GSW's 17 out of 30. Both team had 33 rebounds and North Georgia had 17 turnovers and GSW had fifteen. There were five ties in the game and the lead changed eight times.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road Saturday to face Francis Marion at 1:30 p.m.
