Pink Is A Lucky Color For The Lady 'Canes

AMERIUCS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team (13-11, 7-10 PBC) won Wednesday night in the Storm Dome 60-50 against the Young Harris Mountain Lions (9-15, 6-11 PBC) on Senior Night/ Pink Night.

Senior Tiara Thompson lead the Lady 'Canes with 17 points followed by senior Shanedra Lockett with 14 points. The Lady 'Canes shot 43.9 percent and picked up 39 rebounds.

GSW was up 11-4 in the first at the 12:49 mark after Lockett, Thompson and Yvonna Dunkley made lay ups followed by Dunkley with a 3-pointer and Kabrina Merriweather with a jump shot. The Mountain Lions made a come back with three 3-pointers in a row to tie the game and took the lead with another 3-pointer. GSW tied the game up twice but fell short with two lay ups at the end of the first half by Young Harris. GSW went into halftime behind 26-22.

GSW trailed behind Young Harris for the first 10 minutes in the second half but took the lead after Shatoria Hudson put up two lay ups, followed by Lockett with two more and Hudson with another. With 1:26 left in the game Lockett put in two free throws followed by Thompson with a lay up and a free throw. Danisha Green added a free throw and Thompson put in a lay up with 16 seconds to go to put the cherry on top of the cake for a ten point win. The Lady 'Canes  scored 38 points in the second to take the 60-50 victory.

GSW out rebounded Young Harris 39-32 and outshot them 43.9% to 36.0%.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road Saturday to face Georgia College at 3:30 p.m.
