Women's Basketball Adds JUCO Transfer

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University head women's basketball coach Kelly Britsky has announced that Chanice Whitton will transfer from St. Petersburg (Fla.) College to play for the Lady Hurricanes in the fall of 2015.

"Chanice is an outstanding player and an even better person," Britsky said. "We are so excited to have her in the Hurricane Family."

Whitton averaged 9.6 points per game and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 40.2 percent from the floor in 2014-15 for Coach Denisha Davidson at SPC.

"Chanice runs the floor well, finishes around basket, and has solid shot," Britsky said. "She is just now starting to reach her potential."

The 6-foot-1 forward posted six double-doubles last season. Whitton's best performance came Feb. 21 at Miami Dade College where she dropped 20 points and pulled down a season-best 17 rebounds.

"Her growth in just two years of college has been outstanding," Britsky said.

Whitton scored in double figures 13 times last season, including a season-high 24 points at Hillsborough Community College on Dec. 19, 2014. She grabbed double-figure rebounds on eight occasions, which included a stretch of six straight games. Whitton was voted Most Improved at SPC her freshman year and First Team All-Southern Conference in 2014-15.

"Coach Davidson at St. Petersburg really gave Chanice a chance to discover what she can do," Britsky said. "We are excited to see what the next level looks like."

Whitton, an Indiantown, Fla., native, played her prep ball at Martin County High School.
