McSwain Leads GSW On Pink Night

AMERICUS, Ga.- Junior guard Jasmine McSwain made five of six 3-pointers to help the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team in their 65-61 victory over Francis Marion University Saturday night in the Storm Dome on Pink Day.

GSW improves their record to 11-12 overall and 5-11 in the Peach Belt Conference and FMU moves to 18-7 and 9-7 in the PBC.

The Patriots took an early lead making the first two baskets of the game and the Lady 'Canes turned it around with an eight point streak. Va'Queshia Hall started it with a jump shot and Yvonna Dunkley and Kris Beckham made consecutive 3-pointers.

After three minutes of missed baskets FMU put one in to come within two points of the lead but McSwain put in a 3-pointer to open it back up to five. FMU made another to cut the lead to three and McSwain responded with another 3-pointer to finish the first quarter up 18-12.

McSwain made her third 3-pointer seconds into the second quarter. FMU came within three points with two back-to-back baskets and Hall opened it back up to seven with two jump shots. Hall put in another jumper after FMU scored a basket and with ten seconds left the Patriots scored again to trail 27-22 going into halftime.

FMU scored four points in the opening minute of the third quarter to come within one point of GSW and tied the game 32-32 with 5:33 remaining. Chanice Whitton made an old fashion 3-point play and Whitney Young put in a jump shot to give themselves a five point cushion and McSwain opened it to seven with another 3-pointer.

FMU closed the third quarter with three free throws and a layup to trail by two heading into the fourth.

McSwain opened the fourth quarter with another 3-pointer and Young put in a 3-pointer after FMU made a basket to lead by six.

With 31 seconds remainig FMU put in a 3-pointer to come within three points of the lead and with 11 seconds left put in another 3-pointer to trail by two and then fouled. Hall made both free throws to give GSW a four point win.

McSwain led GSW with 19 points and Hall had 12. Holden reamins the rebound leader and picked up 8.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road Wednesday to play Young Harris at 5:30 p.m.
