YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team falls to 11-13 overall and 5-12 in the Peach Belt Conference after a 53-43 loss to Young Harris College Wednesday night in the Recreation Center.

Young Harris took a nine point lead seven minutes into the game and led 15-5 at the end of the first quarter.

Kris Beckham made a three point play to start the second quarter with a layup and a free throw to fall by seven. YHC put in a jump shot and Beckham put in a three pointer to come within six points.

YHC put in another jump shot and the Lady 'Canes put up seven points in two minutes to close the gap to one point.

Whitney Young put in a layup, Aleah Holden made two free throws, Va'Queshia Hall made a free throw and Yvonna Dunkley put in a layup.

YHC finished the second quarter with two baskets to lead 23-18 heading into halftime.

The Mountain Lions started the third quarter with two baskets and GSW responded with three baskets from Chanice Whitton, Ja'Quasha Sesler and Kenyona Armstrong to come within three points.

YHC went on a seven point streak to lead 34-24 with 5:27 left in the third quarter. Dunkley put in a 3-pointer followed by a free throw from YHC and then Jasmine McSwain put in another 3-pointer for GSW to come within five with 4:26 left. At the end of the third the Mountain Lions led 40-34.

Khayla Owens put in a jump shot to start the fourth quarter and YHC responded with four baskets to take a 12 point lead with 5:49 left in the game.

Hall put in two free throws followed by a layup from Whitton and YHC came back with a free throw and a layup to lead 51-40 with 2:38 remaining and finished the game ahead 53-43.

Dunkley led GSW with nine points and Holden led with seven rebounds.

Young Harris out-rebounded GSW 41-27.

The Lady 'Canes are home on Saturday for Homecoming and host Georgia College at 1:30 p.m. in the Storm Dome.
