Lady 'Canes Bounce Past Bobcats On Homecoming

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team beat Georgia College 81-67 Saturday afternoon in the Storm Dome on Homecoming.

The Lady Canes are now 12-13 overall and 6-12 in the Peach Belt Conference while the Bobcats move to 16-11 and 8-10 in the PBC.

GSW led by ten five minutes into the game and took a 17 point advantage after a 3-pointer from Jasmine McSwain followed by a jump shot from Khayla Owens and a layup and free throw from Yvonna Dunkley. The Lady 'Canes finished the first quarter leading 24-10.

McSwain put in another 3-pointer in the beginning of the second quarter and Georgia College matched it and put in a layup to cut GSW's lead to 10.

Emili Russ and McSwain both made baskets to take a 14 point lead and GSW finished the second quarter with two 3-pointers from Dunkley to lead 39-19 at the half.

The Bobcats put in a 3-pointer to start off the third quarter and five minutes in were only down by 15. GSW opened their lead to 26 points with 1:26 remaining in the third after a nine point streak.

Kenyona Armstrong put in a free throw followed by Russ with a layup, Whitney Young with a 3-pointer, Aleah Holden with a free throw and McSwain with a jump shot.

The Bobcats ended the third with two free throws to head into the final quarter down 62-39.

Georgia College had their highest scoring quarter in the fourth with 28 points. With 2:13 remaining they were within ten points of the lead and at the 1:37 mark were eight point away.

GSW finished the game with four free throws from Dunkley and a layup from Russ to win 81-67.

Dunkley led GSW with 21 points, McSwain had 19, Russ had 17 and Holden picked up a game hight 16 rebounds.

The Lady 'Canes are home Wednesday to play North Georgia at 5:30 p.m.
