Britsky Signs Tower In Parris

AMERICUS, Ga. - Georgia Southwestern State University head women's basketball coach Kelly Britsky announced the signing of 6-foot-1 junior transfer Patra Parris from Andrew College for the 2017-18 season.

"We are so thrilled to have Patra 'Pat' as a part of our Hurricane Family," Britsky said. "She is not only an outstanding basketball player but a great person. She will bring size and experience to our post game this year."

Parris, a native of Bainbridge, Ga., averaged 15.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, shot 46 percent from the field and started all 29 games for Coach Courtney Pritchett in 2016-17.

As a freshman, Parris played for Coach Lea Henry at Darton College where she average nine points and four rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the field.

Parris scored 715 points during her junior college career and earned two Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Women's Player of the Week awards during the 2016-2017 season, as well as a spot on the All-Region team.

Parris wrapped up her prep career by being named First Team All-Region, All-Area and All-State as a senior at Bainbridge High School. Selected to the Albany Herald Super 6, she averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per contest her senior year to lead Bainbridge to a 21-8 season and an appearance in the Georgia High School Association Class AAAA state tournament.

"The sky is the limit for Pat," Britsky said. "She is already working hard to make the transition to the Peach Belt Conference and I am eager to see the things she will do as a Hurricane."

Parris has volunteered over 200 hours with Touching the Lines Sports, a mentoring and character education program for at risk youth. She intends to major in education to continue making an impact in the lives of young people.
