Hillgrove Standout Signs With Lady Hurricanes

AMERICUS, Ga. - Georgia Southwestern State University head women's basketball coach Kelly Britsky announced the signing of 5-foot-10 forward Tyra Smith from Hillgrove High School in Powder Springs, Ga., for the 2017-18 season.

"Tyra brings athleticism, speed and strength immediately to our lineup," Britsky said. "She knows the game of basketball and has the ability to make an impact early in her career."

Smith, a native of Marietta, helped Hillgrove to back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in the Georgia High School Association Class AAAAAAA state tournament as a four-year letterman for the Hawks.

Smith averaged 11 points and 15 rebounds her senior year while dishing out five assists per game playing for Coach Susan Milam.

"We are excited to bring Tyra into our family," Britsky said.

Smith played Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball for Coach Jack Feagin and the Georgia Pistols where they won the 2016 AAU 11th Grade Division I national championship and an adidas national championship.
