AMERICUS, Ga. - Georgia Southwestern State University head women's basketball coach Kelly Britsky announced that 5-foot-8 forward Mariya Trimble has transferred from Chattahoochee Technical College to play for the Lady Hurricanes in 2017-18.

"We are excited to have Mariya join the Hurricane family," Britsky said. "She brings explosiveness, speed and power to the basket."

A native of Lithonia, Ga., Trimble averaged a double-double last season as a freshman for the Golden Eagles. She led the team with 11.4 rebounds per game and was second in scoring at 17.5 points per contest. Trimble shot 46 percent from the field and started 31 of 32 games for Coach Tony Ingle, Jr.

Trimble scored in double figures 29 times in 2016-17, including a season-high 27 points in the season finale against South Georgia Technical College in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association tournament semifinals to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team. Chattahoochee Tech finished with a record of 21-11. Her career high in rebounds came on Feb. 12 when she pulled down 19 against Atlanta Metropolitan State College.

Trimble played her prep ball at Tucker High School where she received honorable mention on the 2015-16 Georgia High School Association Class AAAAAA All-State team after Tucker finished runner-up in the state tournament.

"Mariya comes from a high school program that knows how to win and has instilled a work ethic that prepared her for the next level," Britsky said.
