AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University women's basketball team struggled to find its offensive rhythm in a 76-63 loss to Georgia College Wednesday in front of 213 at the Storm Dome.

Gabby Figgers knocked down four from 3-point range to lead the Lady Canes with 13 points. Patra Parris had season highs across the board, coming off the bench to score 11 points and grab seven rebounds in 23 minutes. GSW falls to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in Peach Belt Conference play with the loss. 

Alyah McGriff paced Georgia College with 21 points and seven boards while Erin Drynan notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

How It Happened: The first half was very evenly matched as both teams made small runs in each quarter, but neither could build more than a seven point lead. After a layup from Brittany Grant tied the game at 17 with 7:09 left in the second quarter the Bobcats went on a 9-2 run to take a 26-19 lead with 3:51 left.

GSW stormed back in the final three minutes with a layup from Mariya Trimble and a three point play from Tamecia Blue. Patra Parris followed with a layup of her own and two free throws to make it a 30-28 Bobcat lead at the break.

The struggles on the offensive end put the Lady Canes in a hole during the third quarter. GSW shot just 38.9 percent from the floor and 25 percent from deep, the bright spot coming on two of Figgers' 3-pointers and two baskets from Amanda Melosky. Georgia College shot 52.9 percent at the other end to outscore GSW 23-16 in the quarter and take a nine point lead to the final 10 minutes.

The Lady Canes cut into the Georgia College lead twice in the final quarter and make it an eight point game. Shanya Jones hit a 3-pointer with 6:37 remaining to make it 59-51, but that was as close as it would get. The Bobcats shot 81 percent (13-of-16) from the free throw line down the stretch to end hopes for a GSW comeback in the final minutes.

Who Stood Out: Center Patra Parris impacted the game at both ends of the floor in her most extensive action of the season thus far. Parris grabbed two of her seven rebounds at the offensive end and knocked down three free throws on the way to scoring 11 points. After playing just seven minutes last time out Gabby Figgers returned to form. The senior guard saw 25 minutes on the floor and scored in double figures for the fourth time this season.
