WBB Picks Up Three New Transfers

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern State University head women's basketball coach Kelly Britsky welcomes three transfer student-athletes to the Lady Hurricanes roster for the 2018-19 season. Kayla Smith, Brianna Perry and Morgan Towells will join the program this fall.

Details on each of the incoming freshman players are listed below. 


Kayla Smith 

Position: Guard/Forward

Transferred From: Atlanta Metropolitan College 

High school: Newton High School (Covington, GA)

Accolades: All-Region Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Team 2018

Additional Info: Averaged 11.6 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists while shooting 40% from the field.

Britsky breakdown:  "Kayla is a super athletic guard-forward player. She is great in transition and very active on the boards with her leaping ability. I am excited about how versatile Kayla is and I believe she is just tapping into her potential at this point."


Brianna Perry

Position: Guard

Transferred from: Moberly Area Community College

High school: Centennial High School (Roswell, GA)

Accolades: First Team All-Metro for North Fulton County, Class 6AAAAAA All-Region player and All-Region Tournament team, named to Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List while at MACC

Additional info: Comes from the #4 Moberly Area CC, played in the National Tournament, career high 36 points vs. Jefferson, 500 club in scoring, fourth member of the Mobely Area CC to reach 500 career points, second leading scorer as a freshman who averaged 10 points per game on a team that went 23-8 and appeared in the NJCAA Top 25 poll

Britsky breakdown: "Brianna is long and athletic. We will be looking for some veteran play from Bri this year.  She knows how to win and is a very consistent player.  She can shoot the three, put the ball on the floor, and can be a force to deal with defensively.  We are looking forward to all that Brianna will bring to the team."


Morgan Towells

Position: Guard

Transferred From: Jacksonville State University

High school: Medgar Evers College Prep (Brooklyn, NY) / IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL)

Additional info: Averaged 4.2 points and 14 minutes per game in 29 games while at Jacksonville State. Averaged 12.5 points pr game, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game at IMG Academy. Attended 2016 Maya Moore Girls Elite Skills Academy and is rated a three-star prospect by ESPN, selected to the USA Basketball Women U16 National Team trials in 2013. 

Britsky breakdown: "Morgan is athletic guard who is skilled enough to play the point but can also score the ball from the wing with her ability to create one on one. She has a scorer's mentality and a competitive spirit. I look forward to working with Morgan this year.  She has the potential to make a splash in the Peach Belt this season."
