Lady Canes Win Fifth Straight

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team defeated the Fort Valley State Wildcats on Tuesday night. The Hurricanes with the win start the season 5-0 with every win by double digits.

The Lady Canes started the game on fire, outscoring the Wildcats 25-11 in the first quarter. In the second quarter the Wildcats attempt to even out the scoring as they were only outscored by three points. The bright spot for the Wildcats was Amiya Allen scoring 11 points in just 13 minutes of action. The Hurricanes took 17 point lead into the half after a tough quarter, shooting just 29.4% from the field in the second quarter.

The third quarter was all Lady Canes much like the opening quarter the Lady Canes scored 29 points only allowing the Wildcats 14. GSW's keys to the win were a disruptive defense forcing 35 turnovers on 22 steals. The leading scorer for the Lady Canes was Jolicia Williams, scoring 20 points in just 20 minutes.

The Lady Canes will move on and host pre-season ranked Valdosta State at home next Tuesday, Nov. 30th.
