#13 Lady Hurricanes Soar Past Nighthawks

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The 13th-ranked Georgia Southwestern State University women's basketball team outscored the University of North Georgia, 27-9, in the second quarter to pull away early on Wednesday evening in the Storm Dome and cruise to a 72-45 Peach Belt Conference victory.

The Lady Hurricanes led by as many as 28 points to hand UNG its largest loss in the series since GSW joined the NCAA in 2006-07.

Destiny Garrett led the Lady Hurricanes with 19 points to match her career high set only four days earlier. Garrett connected on 8 of 10 shots and 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. Leianya Massenat scored 12 points in 17 minutes on the floor. She connected on 2 of 3 from long range. Leah Johnson added 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Kayla Langley pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

GSW (20-3, 13-2 PBC) has eclipsed 20 wins for the third consecutive season. The Lady Hurricanes close out the home portion of the regular season on Saturday with Senior Night against Georgia College (12-13, 6-9 PBC) at 5:30 p.m.
