The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team dropped a
season-opening 2-1 overtime decision to Eckerd College on Friday
afternoon in the first game of the GSW Hurricane/Quality Inn
Classic at Hurricane Field.
Freshman Brittany Hill gave GSW an early 1-0 lead when she found
the back of the net off a corner kick from Elizabeth Keller in the
10th minute.
The visiting Tritons (1-0) tied the game at the 30:44 mark when
Megan Gunzelman dribbled through the right side of the Hurricane
defense and drove a shot past GSW junior goalkeeper Christy Drabek
from 10 yards out.
The two teams finished regulation locked at a goal apiece.
In the 96th minute Sarah Bird fed Gunzelman on a cross over the
middle that Gunzelman was able to put in the top left corner from
eight yards away.
Drabek tallied ten saves for GSW. Marissa Berger stopped three for
Eckerd. The Tritons outshot GSW 23-8 and led 11-8 in corner
kicks.
The Lady Hurricanes drop to 1-4 all-time in season-opening
contests.
GSW is back in action on Sunday at 4 p.m. hosting Converse College
(S.C.) in the final game of the GSW Hurricane/Quality Inn Classic.
