The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team lost 4-0 to Thomas
University on Thursday afternoon at Hurricane Field.
Thomas freshman Casey Ponder (Cairo H.S.) gave TU an early 1-0 lead
when she found the back of the net from eight yards out off an
assist from Sabrina Freeman at the 22:07 mark.
Minutes later the visiting Lady Night Hawks (1-2) scored their
second goal when senior Mandy Ballinger broke loose in front of the
goal and fired a quick shot from 10 yards into the top right corner
at 31:52.
The lead remained at two until the 66th minute when freshman Madlen
Schwausch took a feed from junior Tiffany Parker and pushed a shot
past GSW junior goalkeeper Christy Drabek.
Ponder punched in her second goal of the game in the 69th minute from 12 yards off a pass from Ballinger to complete the scoring on the afternoon.
Drabek tallied four saves for GSW. Heather Collins stopped four
for Thomas. The Lady Night Hawks outshot GSW 22-10 and led 3-1 in
corner kicks.
GSW (1-2) is off until Friday, September 12 when they
travel to St. Leo (Fla.) for a 4 p.m. contest with the Lions.
