North Alabama Pulls Away from Lady Canes

The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team lost 7-1 to the University of North Alabama on Tuesday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

GSW (2-4) struck first at the 32:20 mark when freshman Kalila Lincoln broke free along the back line for a one-on-one opportunity she was able to capitalize on.  It was Lincoln's second goal in as many games.

That's when UNA (3-4) forward Tassia Augusto took over.  Augusto scored her first goal at 35:33 on a penalty kick after she was taken down in the box.  Two minutes later, Augusto struck again when she dribbled through the Lady 'Canes defense and delivered a shot from the left corner of the box past the outstretched arms of GSW junior goalkeeper Christy Drabek.  In the 45th minute, Augusto fed freshman Beth Spurr to give the Lions a 3-1 lead heading into the halftime break.

Augusto picked up where she left off in the second half by knocking in her third goal of the game at 55:13 off an assist from Stephanie Bradshaw.  Bradshaw then fed Sarah Robins to extend the Lions' lead to 5-1.  Late goals from Meghan Brown and Adriene Aragon completed the scoring for UNA.

Drabek finished with four saves.  UNA starting goalie Alex McLay saved two and Carly Rhodes came off the bench to save four.  UNA outshot the Lady Hurricanes 21-17 and corner kicks were tied at six apiece.

The Lady Canes are back in action on Friday when they travel to Columbus to face West Georgia at 5 p.m. in first game of the Peach Belt vs. Gulf South Invitational.
