Montevallo sweeps

The University of Montevallo men's and women's soccer teams swept a doubleheader with GSW on Wednesday in Montevallo, Ala.

Kami Kapaku scored six goals to lead the UM women (3-3-2) to an 11-0 win over the Lady 'Canes.  Kapaku's performance was the most goals ever scored by a UM soccer player, men's or women's, and is the sixth most all-time in NCAA Division II.

Aiding the strong performance by Kapaku was five assists from Stacey Balaam, which broke the UM school record she held with past Falcon players Liz Driscoll and Lauren Passwater.

The Lady Hurricanes (2-7) are at Columbia College (S.C.) on Sunday.

In the men's match, the Falcons (4-4) shut down the Hurricanes' offense, while striking their first goal in the sixth minute of play. Alex Ghoja put the Falcons up with assists from Jonathan Maloney and Daniel Pelletier. UM's second goal came in the 57th minute, socred by Jim Witherow and assisted by Otavio Tramonitna.

The Hurricanes (1-8) open Peach Belt Conference play at Francis Marion on Saturday.
