MORROW, Ga. - Spearheaded by two goals from Rebekah Cook, Clayton State posted a 3-0 shutout over visiting Georgia Southwestern at Laker Field on Saturday afternoon.
Cook gave Clayton State a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute off a
cross from Danelle Douglas. It stayed 1-0 in favor of the Lakers at
halftime.
Clayton State (1-12-1, 1-5 PBC) increased the lead to 2-0 in the
53rd minute as Maggie Mueller scored in front of the net off a
double-assist by Douglas and Anne Mullen off a corner kick. Cook
then came back for her second goal in the 85th minute on a long
shot from the right side of the penalty box. Jennifer Powell
recorded the assist on a corner kick.
The Lakers outshot GSW 21-5 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner
kicks.
Lady ‘Canes goalkeeper Lindsey Richardson recorded seven
saves in her first start at goalie for GSW. Clayton State
goalkeeper Whitney Jowers recorded the shutout with two saves.
Elizabeth Keller led the GSW offense with four shots, two on goal.
The Lady Hurricanes (4-11-1, 0-4-1) travel to Macon on Monday for a non-conference match with Wesleyan College at 7 p.m.
