'Canes swept in final road matches

USC Aiken spoiled GSW's hopes of ending the road portion of their 2009 schedule with a couple of wins as the Pacers took both Peach Belt Conference matches Saturday evening in Aiken. The Lady Hurricanes were defeated 2-0; and the men fell 4-1 in the second match. 

USC Aiken 2, GSW women 0

USC Aiken (6-10, 2-7 PBC) scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 victory over the Lady Hurricanes late Saturday afternoon at the "Pacer Pit."

The Pacers' Annie Whitley scored the only goal of the first stanza, minutes before the break (37:11) off an assist from Brittany Paletar.

USCA extended the lead to two goals in the 69th minute when Jenny Pineiro found the back of the net.

GSW was outshot 10-1 on goal. The Pacers held a minimal 3-0 corner kick advantage.  Bahri saved eight for the Lady Hurricanes.  Nicole Westphal made one stop for USCA. 

The Lady Hurricanes (3-12, 0-9 PBC) host Flagler College on Wednesday in the season finale. Senior Day activities will begin five minutes prior to the 1 p.m. kickoff.

USC Aiken 4, GSW men 1

Amr Hailat scored all four goals for USC Aiken (5-10-1, 2-6 PBC) in Saturday's second match.

The Pacers and Hurricanes played a scoreless opening 28 minutes, but Hailat broke the tie for USCA at the 28:33 mark when he knocked in a loose ball off a corner kick from Cory Adamson.

Hailat opened the second half with two quick goals (49:22, 57:01) to give the home team a 3-0 lead.

Sean Howe put the Hurricanes on the board moments later when he converted a GSW corner kick at the 57:28 mark for his first goal of the season. 

Hailat rounded out his evening with a late score in the 86th minute. 

USCA finished with a 20-12 shots advantage and a slim 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Porley saved seven for the Hurricanes. Andray Charles made two saves for USC Aiken.

The Hurricanes (2-14, 0-7 PBC) host Flagler on Wednesday.
