Rough day on the pitch

Lander University took a pair of Peach Belt Conference matches from GSW on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field.  The Lady Hurricanes were defeated 5-1 and the men fell 7-0 in the second match. 

Lander 5, GSW women 1

Lander (6-1-2, 2-1-1 PBC) scored four second half goals in a 5-1 victory over the Lady Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

The Lady Bearcats' Casi Jones scored the only goal of the first stanza, knocking in a loose ball at the 24:46 mark

LU extended the lead to two goals in the 49th minute when Carly Murray scored off an assist from Jamie Shaw.  The Lady Hurricanes answered four minutes later when Brittney Hill pushed a header past Lander goalkeeper Rachel Baggett for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

It remained a one goal game until the 83rd minute when Shaw punched a Jones cross past GSW goalkeeper Amber Bahri.

Lander added goals in the 87th and 90th minutes.

LU finished with a 10-3 shots on goal advantage, while holding GSW without corner kick (10-0).  Bahri saved five for the Lady Hurricanes.  Baggett made one stop for Lander. 

The Lady Hurricanes (3-7, 0-4 PBC) travel to UNC Pembroke on Saturday (10/10).

Lander 7, GSW men 0

The visiting Bearcats scored three goals in the opening 26 minutes of the match and never looked back in defeating the Hurricanes, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

Adam Arthur posted a hat trick for Lander (4-3-1, 1-0-1 PBC) scoring in the third, 26th and 47th minutes.

Arthur and Aaron Brittain (61:08) converted penalty kicks, while Ivan Stoykov (12:48), Craig Hughes (37:28) and Andy Ludewig (80:51) added goals for LU.

GSW's Kevin Huet saved five shots after replacing red-carded David Porley at the 61:08 mark.  Matthew Atkinson gets the shutout playing between the pipes for Lander.

The Hurricanes (1-9, 0-2 PBC) host LaGrange on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
