AMERICUS – Georgia Southwestern women's soccer coach Tony Economopoulos announced the Lady Hurricanes 11-member signing class for 2010 on Friday.

Although this will be Economopoulos' second season at the helm for the Lady 'Canes, it is his first recruiting class since arriving on campus last July.

"This recruiting class is very significant for GSW women’s soccer,” said Economopoulos. "It is exciting to announce the group that will be the foundation of our future success.

"The common thread among all these young ladies is that each of them has extremely high standards for themselves and shares our desire to establish Georgia Southwestern State University as a top Peach Belt-caliber program."

Among the signees are: Darton College transfers Audrey Gant and Carolann Simpson; former GSW player Sabina Nell; Lamar County Comprehensive High's Courtney Allison; Toombs County High's Lisa Espino; Woodstock High's Morgan Plasse; Houston County High's Gracie Preston; Brookwood High's Courtney Simpson; Treutlen High's Autumn Stewart; Perry High's Meghan Ward; and Brookwood High's Julia Wells.

"Each one of these student-athletes has experienced a great deal of success in their high school and club careers,” said Economopoulos. “They chose Georgia Southwestern because they believe this is a place where they can continue to reach their personal goals.

"I am extremely happy with this class and eager to begin working with them in August."
