Lady 'Canes Fight Division I Alabama State to a 2-2 Draw

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Georgia Southwestern Lady 'Cane soccer team used a last minute goal from junior midfielder Julia Wells to force a 2-2 draw against the Alabama State Hornets Tuesday night at the ASU Soccer Complex.

GSW got on the board first in the contest as freshman forward Kristi Sheridan scored on a header goal off a pass from fellow freshman forward Amber Milner in the 29th minute of the first half.

ASU countered with a goal by junior forward India Pleasant off a pass from sophomore forward Alexandria Cannon to tie up the score, 1-1, in the 36th minute.

The score remained tied throughout the first half and into the second when ASU's Alexandria Cannon subsequently broke it on an unassisted goal in the 51st minute of the second half to give the Hornets a 2-1 advantage.

That seemed to be the final score of the match until Wells broke free and punched in an unassisted goal in the 86th minute of the match to even up the score, 2-2, and force overtime.

That turned out to be final score as the two teams remained knotted throughout the two over time sessions. GSW held a 10-6 advantage on SOG in the contest with the freshman Milner leading the charge with three on the night.

GSW (2-4-1) now has a week off and will return to the pitch next Wednesday, Sept. 26, as they travel to Flagler College for a 5 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest.
