AMERICUS - Sometimes one breakdown is one breakdown too many. That was the case for the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Field as Pearl Slattery and Brooke Bortles teamed up to deliver Clayton State a 1-0 Peach Belt Conference victory. 

Slattery found a slashing Bortles behind the GSW defense for a punch-in goal at the far post with 2:29 left in the first half.  

Clayton State led GSW in shots on goal, 10-4, and held a slim 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lady Hurricanes fall to 2-11-1 overall and 0-9 in conference play after dropping their seventh-straight match. Clayton State, ranked ninth in the southeast in the NCAA regional poll released earlier in the day, improves to 8-5-2, 4-3-2 in the PBC.

Mallory Hawkes, Kaylee Krohn and Julia Wells took two shots apiece to lead the GSW offense.

Southwestern goalkeeper Amber Bahri saved nine shots and remains atop the PBC with 87 stops this fall.

Laoise O'Driscoll saved four for Clayton State.

The Lady Hurricanes host No. 2 Armstrong at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in a "Pink Day" game. GSW's game-worn pink jerseys will be auctioned off with the proceeds benefiting breast cancer victims.
