AMERICUS - Courtney Simpson punched in a deflected ball in the box 27 seconds before the halftime break to help the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team earn a 1-1 draw with Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

Both sides capitalized on deflected shots in front of the goal as Palm Beach Atlantic saw Kasey Wyer open the scoring when her corner kick grazed a GSW defender and found the inside of the goal at the 41:34 mark. 

Simpson's goal came less than three minutes later off a deflected ball sent by Catarena Arrant.

Shots were limited for both teams over the final 65 minutes as PBA had seven attempts and GSW managed six. Southwestern gave PBA little opportunity to win the match in overtime as they held the Sailfish to one shot during the 20 minutes of extra time.

The Lady Hurricanes now sit at 2-13-2 overall heading into Sunday's season finale against Georgia Gwinnett at 1 p.m. The Sailfish leave Americus with a record of 8-4-1.

GSW finished with more shots on goal, 9-7, while PBA held a decisive 12-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Simpson, Amber Milner, Ally Canganelli and Carolann Simpson each took two shots on goal to lead GSW.

Southwestern goalkeeper Amber Bahri saved six shots on Saturday and holds a 14-save lead atop the Peach Belt Conference with 114 stops this fall. Bahri is currently third all-time in the PBC with 337 career saves, nine shy of second place.

Allison Fox saved eight shots for PBA.

Canganelli surpassed Nicole Hudson (2007-11) for the top spot in program history for minutes played in a career with 5592.

GSW recognized seniors Bahri, Canganelli, Amanda Canganelli, Carolann Simpson, Cheryl Sloggy and Jennifer Starvetsky in a pregame ceremony.
