Lady 'Canes drop season finale to Georgia Gwinnett, 2-1.

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern Lady Hurricane women's soccer team couldn't hold on as a late second half goal by Georgia Gwinnett proved to be the difference maker on a chilly Sunday afternoon as the Grizzlies prevailed, 2-1.

The Grizzlies were first on the board when GGC's Amanda Dale shot passed the outstretched arms of the goal keeper at the seven minute mark of the first half, to give the Grizzlies the early lead in the match, 1-0.

Southwestern countered with a goal in the 32nd minute of the first half as GSW's Mallary Hawkes took a pass from Catterina Arrant to even up the score, 1-1, going into halftime.

 

In the 86th minute of the second half, the Grizzlies scored the go ahead goal when GGC's Mary Vernetti took a pass from Salina Orzikowski to put Gwinnett up for good, 2-1.

On the day GGC out shot the GSW 14-4, including a 12-3 shots on goal. GSW Goal Keeper Amber Bahri had 10 saves on the day which put her into third all time in the Peach Belt Conference in career saves at 347.

Georgia Southwestern ends the season with a  2-14-2 record and Georgia Gwinnett improves to 10-6-1.
