Women's Soccer Spring Season

AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team played in two spring game matches against Central Georgia Soccer Association and South Georgia College on Saturday, April 5th.

The Lady 'Canes finished in a one-one draw with CGSA and a one-null win against South Georgia  College.  The games on Saturday were the first opportunity for the Lady 'Canes to play full games since the fall season. The ladies were eager to test all of the off-season training.

The first game started off slow, as GSW adjusted to the new style of play that was implemented in the off-season training. Once the Lady 'Canes found their stride, they had many opportunities on the net. Both goals came from sophomore Kristie Sheridan. The first goal came from a cross by freshman Kristin McDonald as Sheridan headed the ball to the back of the net. The second goal of the day also was a header, after Sheridan beat the keeper off a missed clear.

"We are pleased over-all to the start of the spring season, but struggle to get the ball in the back of the net," says Head Coach Snow. "It is promising to see our girls working well defensively as a team. It's a good foundation for the new players coming in this fall."

The next spring games will be Saturday at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala. The team will be participating in a seven-aside tournament against former Division II National Champions, University of West Florida, Division I program Alabama State University, and NAIA power-house Faulkner University.
