GSW Snakebit By Coker, 4-1

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team fell behind early at Coker College on Wednesday night and could not catch the Cobras in a 4-1 loss.

Coker set the pace early, taking the lead 25 seconds into the match.

Neeli Fortson and Shelbie Walker both took attempts to tie the game midway through the first half but both shots were defended by the Cobras goalie Lizz Morris.

Coker scored their second and third goals of the game at the 21:07 and 37:52 marks. Fortson tried again to put a mark on the scoreboard before the end of the first half but her shot was saved.

The Lady Canes started off the second half strong with six saves by sophomore goaltender Chelsee Wright and a few attempts at the goal with shots by Tara Harrison and Haley West. Though the Lady Canes fought hard the Cobras struck again and scored their fourth goal off a corner kick at the 83:13 mark.

Fortson took one last shot on net that finally put GSW on the scoreboard with 57 seconds remaining putting the final score at 4-1. It was the freshman's first collegate goal.

Coker controlled shots on goal (18-5) and corner kicks (11-2).

Southwestern returns home for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday against UNC Pembroke.
