Fortson Scores Again; Lady 'Canes Defeated By UNC Pembroke

AMERICUS - Freshman Neeli Fortson scored her second goal of the season for Georgia Southwestern, but the Lady Hurricanes had no answer for UNC Pembroke in a 10-1 loss on Saturday morning at Hurricane Field in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both schools.

GSW started the first half off with a few saves by sophomore goaltender Chelsee Wright. The Lady Hurricanes were able to hold off the UNCP up until the 17th minute when Lovisa Gustafsson scored the Lady Braves first goal. Despite tough effort by the GSW defense UNCP was able to get two more goals in the first half making the score 3-0 at the break. The second goal was by Senecal-Guzman came off a corner kick and the third was by Katie Watkins.

It took all of fifteen seconds for the Lady Braves to open the scoring in the second half as they got their fourth goal of the game and shortly after scored again.

Kristi Sheridan attempted to put the Lady Hurricanes on the scoreboard but her shot went high. Less then ten minutes later Neeli Fortson scored her second collegiate career goal making the match 5-1 with 22 minutes to play.

The scoring continued for the Lady Braves in the second half. In the last 25 minutes of the game UNCP (2-0-1, 1-0 PBC) put in another five goals making the final score, 10-1.

GSW recorded a total of 10 saves for the game compared to one by UNCP.

The Lady Hurricanes (0-4, 0-1 PBC) are on the road Wednsday to play the University of Tampa in Valdosta, Ga.
