Montevallo Scores Twice In Second Half To Defeat GSW, 2-0

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – A pair of second-half goals from Jade Pennock was the difference Wednesday evening as the University of Montevallo women's soccer team defeated Georgia Southwestern, 2-0, at Varsity Field.

GSW falls to 0-13 overall and 0-7 in the Peach Belt Conference while Montevallo won its first match of the season to improve to 1-7-1 overall and 1-5-1 in PBC play.

The Falcons accounted for the only three shots on goal taken over the opening 45 minutes and the contest remained scoreless into the halftime break.

Pennock punched in what would prove to be the game winner for Montevallo in the 59th minute when she scored off a Camilla Alderin ball from just outside the six-yard box.

Pennock struck again five minutes later when she added the insurance goal off a pass from Emma Greenwood.

Montevallo finished with a 9-1 advantage in both shots on goal and corner kicks. Neeli Fortson took the Lady Hurricanes lone shot on goal.

GSW goalkeeper Elyse Gowen saved seven.

Katie Pearson stopped one for Montevallo to earn the first shutout of her collegiate career.

Southwestern travels to Young Harris on Saturday for an 5 p.m. match against the Mountain Lions.
