Season Ends For Lady Hurricanes With 3-0 Loss

AMERICUS - Cintia Lamas scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the Shorter University women's soccer team past Georgia Southwestern, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

GSW finishes its 2014 season with a 0-18 record. Shorter halts its three-match losing streak to improve to 11-7.

Lamas punched in a rebound in front of the goal at the 15:25 mark to put the Lady Hawks ahead 1-0. Lamas struck again in the closing minutes of the first half when sent a pass from Lora Bruce into the back of the net at 43:04.

Shorter led 2-0 at the break.

Despite being limited to three second-half shots, the final goal of the afternoon came from Shorter when Taylor Hendrix collected a loose ball and scored in the 51st minute. The Lady Hurricanes outshot Shorter, 4-3, in the second half.    

Shorter finished the match with a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal and 7-0 edge in corner kicks. Colleen Livings led the Lady Hurricanes with two shots on goal.

GSW senior goalkeeper Kendal Baskin saved 10 in her final collegiate match.

Alden Powell stopped two for Shorter in 84 minutes and Jamie Allen stopped one over the final six minutes.

Baskin and fellow senior Nicole Trevino were honored at halftime as part of Southwestern's Senior Day ceremony.
